Banks & bank account for foreigners
BUSINESS BANK ACCOUNT
Business account needs to be opened before registering the company. It is not necessary for the company to have a business account in Slovenia. For already registered companies, the procedure is usually not complicated.

Before Company registration
It is necessary to arrange the following:
- passport,
- memorandum for opening a company obtained by the registration agency, a copy from the company register,
- tax identification number,
- filled bank forms,
- deposited share capital,
- filled form for obtaining electronic bank and e-certificate,
- order an ATM and/or credit card – 1 week time.

DOCUMENTATION OBTAINED
- Receipt of initial capital deposit.
After Company registration
It is necessary to:
- sign the forms to activate the business account,
- fill in bank card order forms (will be sent to the company address) – it takes a week to receive them,
- fill in authorization forms for your accountant (if applicable).
Activities depend on the bank where you opened the account.
DOCUMENTATION NEEDED
- Extract of electronic certificate (obtained with a token).
For registered Companies
ACTIVITIES:
- filling bank forms,
- filling the form for obtaining electronic bank,
- filing the forms to order bank cards (can be sent to company address) – it takes a week to receive them.

BANK ACCOUNT FOR INDIVIDUALS
Foreign citizens without permanent residence in Slovenia can open a personal bank account for non-residents at most banks in Slovenia. You need:
- a valid personal ID (identity card or passport),
- Slovenian tax identification number,
- tax identification number of the country of your permanent residence.

BANKS IN SLOVENIA
- Commercial banks in Slovenia: Abanka, Addiko, Banka Koper, Banka Sparkasse, Deželna banka Slovenije, Gorenjska banka, KBS banka, Nova kreditna banka Maribor (NKBM), Nova Ljubljanska banka (NLB), Sberbank banka, SKB banka, SID Banka – Slovene Export and Development Bank, UniCredit Banka Slovenija.
- Savings banks in Slovenia: Delavska hranilnica, Hranilnica LON, Primorska Hranilnica Vipava.
- Branches of foreign (Euro system) credit institutions in Slovenia: BKS Bank AG, Brüll Kallmus Bank AG, RCI Banque Societe Anonyme.
The largest Slovenian bank is Nova Ljubljanska banka (NLB), owned by the Republic of Slovenia (majority shareholder). The second largest Slovenian bank is Nova Kreditna banka Maribor (NKBM).
PAYMENT CARDS
Non-cash payment with credit or debit cards is possible everywhere through POS terminals. Payment cards accepted in Slovenia are MasterCard, Maestro, Visa, Visa Electron, American Express, Amex, Diners, local cards Activa and Karanta and others (depending on company contract).
You can pay and withdraw cash with a credit or debit card in most countries outside Slovenia and the EU. Some problems might occur in non-EU countries, so inform the bank clerk where and how you will use the cards, to learn about possible complications and bank fees.
